UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
First off i'd like to apologise for the complete lack of Estonian and this will all be in English. I am hoping Google Translate will do all the heavy lifting for me.
My name is John and I live in the UK. I've had a passion for the Vauxhall Carlton mk3 (Omega-A) for perhaps 20 years and have owned many. I was put on to this forum by Martin (viewtopic.php?f=39&t=14973) as I wish to buy a EVO500/DTM bodykit off him when they are ready.
Here is my Carlton currently: 1UZFE 4.0 V8 from a Lexus LS400.
Eaton TVS1900 Supercharger
MaxxECU Race management system
405 rear wheel hp
Omega-B 2.2DTi manual gearbox
Vauxhall Monaro VXR rear differential
Steering box replaced with a rack and pinion steering system from a Corsa-C

Corsa-C. I used the steering rack and the electric column.
I did have to modify the tie rods and used Vectra-B ends

Re: UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
Does it have senator headlights?
Front end seems bit strange with them.
OT. Few days ago one guy from norway installed right hand BMW e39 steering rack reversed to left hand drive omega A.
Did you calculate your setup or just trow steering rack into there?

Yes, Senator B front end. I fitted it to be more suitable for the American cop car look.
When I convert it to a DTM replica I will refit the Carlton front end.
I calculated it, the rack pivot points perfectly match the original pivot points so there is no problems with geometry. This is why I used the Corsa C rack, it's length is almost perfect to match the original Carlton.

Re: UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
How did you solved speedometre problem?
Omega A has originally speed sensor on gearbox, but Omega B reads from ABS sensor.

Re: UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
My aftermarket ecu gets a speed signal from an ABS sensor. I have the oem speedometer get its signal from the Ecu.
This allows me to alter the speed signal inside the Ecu and calibrate it for a perfect reading.
But there is a way to do it without using the ECU which is what I did before

Re: UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
Maybe you have info.
I am going to use digital spidometer.
Most propably signal from ABS sensor will work(square wafe +12v). Other thing is, does the frequency is right. But it is not problem. There are signal 3rd party multiplayers/deviders available. They are used on motorsycles, when people change gearing.
Do you know how to calibrate spidometer, or do you know anyone who knows?
In UK, omega was police vehicle and I found company witch actually calibrated omega spidometers in UK.
Other problem is. As far as I know max speed reading in digital instrument cluster is 288(?) When watching segments, then "3", as first segment should be possible by hardware.
Is there any modification to shift that reading?
By hex code 288 should be 120 or "FF 21"

Re: UK Vauxhall Carlton 1uzfe supercharged
ABS sensors are variable reluctance so need to be converted to a 12v square wave. I used a Corsa C module used for this task (it looked like an orange relay. I think I have a spare)Martin kirjutas: ↑03 Veebr 2024 20:35 Maybe you have info.

After the Corsa C module had bumped the signal to a 12v square wave I had a small module that took in a square wave and could adjust it by multiplying or dividing. This is how I calibrated the speedo.
These modules were made many years ago by a hobby electrician, he was part of our club here in the UK.
I am certain these modules exist these days, perhaps using an Arduino microcontroller??
Yes I know there was a way of doing this, in the UK we used Senators mostly for police work. However I've never seen information on how this was done.
I think it would be safe to assume the top displayed speed would be 288km/hr.Martin kirjutas: ↑03 Veebr 2024 20:35 Other problem is. As far as I know max speed reading in digital instrument cluster is 288(?) When watching segments, then "3", as first segment should be possible by hardware.

You know that's 178mph right? That's very fast, surely you don't need the speedo to read faster than this?
In the UK we still use miles/hr so there has never been a need to looking into getting the speedo to read any more than it can.

We have someone in club, that actually has capabilty to drive faster than digital cluster will allow.

Do you mean the rear diff mount? No, it's a Holden HSV tuning part from Australia
